The Gottwood Twig Society
Following a review of the Conservatives pledge for Britain, we reckon we've found the countries answer; as we are still awaiting a 'Big Society' why not be a part of the Gottwood party and join 'The Twig Society', deep in an Anglesey forest...
“A festival is at its best when the bonds between people are strong and the sense of purpose is clear. Today the challenges facing festivals are immense. The line ups are overwhelmed by the same old names, the dance tent’s fabric is frayed and the bookings system has betrayed the people. But these problems can be overcome if we party together. In a forest. In Anglesey. It’s not a Big Society that’s needed, it’s a Twig Society.
Some festivals say: ‘give us your ticket and we will sort out all your fun’. We say: real change comes when the people are inspired and mobilised, when thousands of us are fired up to party. Yes this is ambitious. Yes it is optimistic. But in the end all the big name bookings, all the light shows, all the “cleanest toilets” awards are just words without you and your involvement.
How will we revitalise the tired and saturated festival culture unless people stop asking ‘who will book Orbital (again)?’ and start asking ‘what can I do?’ Festivals will change for the better when we all elect to take part, to take responsibility – if we all come together.
Only together can we protect the falafel stand. Mend broken tent poles. Improve our toilets. Only together can we get the cash machine queue moving. Together we can even make the weather better (maybe). And if we can do that, we can do anything. Yes, together we can do anything.
So our invitation today is this: join us, Gottwood, to breed a new kind of festival for Britain"
The Gottwood Manifesto

2. Create a more balanced musical, visual and cultural Festival.
3. Get Britain raving again.
4. Encourage enterprising collaborations and spontaneity.
5. Ensure the whole country shares their unique experiences and wise tales.
6. Reform the toilets, we all deserve better.
7. Create a safer camping system that serves the needs of our Twig Society.
8. Build a greener festival within a greener Britain.

Theme
We went all "Tribal" last year, this time round we’re going…
SUMMER OF LOVE (1967)
Travel
We don’t pride ourselves on our close proximity to a major city but that’s all part of the appeal… we’re in the middle of nowhere, and it’s great, apart from the fuel!
If you must use a car we would encourage lift sharing where possible, it’s cheaper, greener and more fun. Go Car Share are sorting all the car sharing this year so head over to the specific Go Car Share Gottwood page to hook up a ride. Having said this the site is very accessible by car and is conveniently served by a dual carriageway, excluding the last 10 minutes.
Head for Bangor and exit east on the A55 towards Anglesey. Take the A55 all the way to Valley where you will start to see signs to the festival. On approaching Valley take the exit onto the A55 and take a right at the round about. Continue to the cross roads and take another right onto the A5025, follow this for approximately 8 miles until you reach the village of Llanfaethlu. At the approach to the village bear left at the ‘Y’ junction and you will begin to see the gates to the festival on you right.
The nearest train station is Holyhead and takes approximately 4 hours from London, 2 from Manchester. There will be numerous taxi’s on hand, to Transport you from the train station to the site. Ask for Gottwood Festival in Llanfaethlu, just off the A5025, it will be signposted from Valley.
Camping
We couldn’t possibly charge you extra to get your head down… could we? No of course not, access to the campsite is included in the ticket price, unless you want a posh tipi tent, or a space to park your van.
If you want to camp in luxurious style then get involved in Hotel Bell Tent. Book yourself a tent here - http://hotelbelltent.co.uk/index.php?main_page=page&id=114
Due to the nature of the location we haven’t worked out how we are going to accommodate camper vans yet. If your thinking that you do want to bring you campervan, please send an email to info@gottwood.co.uk with the subject line ‘Camper Van Application’. We will then be able to give you latest and keep you updated as to our plans.
We’ve noted your point on the toilets and we agree we screwed up a bit there last year, expect something a little bit more luxurious this year, trust us we don’t want the ‘worst festival toilets’ tag!
Food
You’ve got to eat, and you got to eat well! We’re aiming to bring you a wide selection of the finest food from around the country, as well as locally sourced specialties.
There will be numerous food outlets situated around the site. You will be allowed to bring you own food onto site however, please note that no personal fires, stoves or cooking devices will be allowed onto site.
Alcohol
Yes, there will be numerous bars on site serving cold, none watered down good quality drinks at a reasonable price! You will be allowed to bring your own alcohol onto site however, will be restricted to either 8 beers/ciders or 2 bottles of wine (decanted into a plastic container), no personal spirits will be allowed on site.
All excess, or non-compliant alcohol will be confiscated at the ticket gate.
Drugs
Gottwood does not condone the use or possession of illegal substances, all individuals found in possessions of such substances will be evicted from the festival and handed over to the police.
Green/Local Pledge
We are privileged to have such an amazing site and surroundings to host the festival in, we don’t want to ruin it, in fact we want to look after it as well as putting as much effort as we can back into the local community.
We will be working closely with the local council, villages and emergency services to provide the best possible festival for both the locals and the travelling festival goers.
We aim to source local produce and utilize local services where possible. We will be hunting out all the local talent providing a platform for them to perform upon as well as giving local students a chance to showcase there work and talent.
We are aware we are situated in the centre of an area of outstanding natural beauty and we want to support this. We will be working with sustainable waste and refuse companies, the forestry commission, as well as promoting greener methods of transport, ‘eco toilets’ and more. We would appreciate your support and commitment to this whilst enjoying the festival.
